All weapons should be 2 to 3 shot kills and be able to hit from across the map (hit, not reliably aimed across the map)

And yes that would turn an HMG into a weed whacker with a 50 foot string...as it should be.]]>

A lightbeam is just as strong as it's source and will loose power over travelled distance. So, if a LR kills you in 80 m distance heated in like 2 seconds, what does this mean for CQC? ;)

You better say goodbye to anything you think you know, this is a game and going with logic won't bring you anything in here. It's about balance, not about realism.

To weaponise a laser, you need to focus the beam in such a way that it narrows down into the most tightly-confined beam possible. Different lenses could be focused to reach maximum intensity at a variety of ranges. But whatever lens you're using, you WILL have a fixed range unless you have a lens that can be dynamically reshaped or swapped out for a different one at will. So obviously, our Laser Rifles have a lens that has a fixed focal point at about [insert optimal range here]. Future variants might be better for CQC, or for even longer ranges.

Also, the laser description says that it's designed to operate at high heat, hence the increase in power as it heats up.]]>

Realistically speaking, the handheld machine guns would never be more accurate than Assault rifles... the kick and lack of ability to actually aim when holding them don't allow it. Now, if it is mounted on some sort of stand, bi-pod or tri-pod... whatever.. then I could agree with you.
