Legionnaire is the most logical term and I think that will stick as a reference to a player of EVE: Legion.
It kind of makes me think of Captain Planet's 'Planeteers' which is lame.

I suppose Capsuleer and Legionnaire are on the same level, and have a nice ring together don't they?
I find I refer to my Dust players as Troops, and my EVE players as Pilots to be honest.

And then there is Private Shaleen in his entirely separate category :), the man is a beast.]]>

1) They are stuck in a sterile field because of fear for contamination, ergo they are stuck in their ship or in their Captains Quarters.

2) They travel in little eggs that fit inside larger ships.

3) They show no signs of physical expertise or prowess.

4) We don't even know if they know how to shoot a gun, or which end shoots the gun... But they do know how to operate turrets.

Doesn't explain what we are that well. Anyone in a Legion, such as the Amarrian Legion, could be considered a Legionnaire. It also is not super iconic and doesn't stand out. From Wikipedia:
"An effigy is a representation of a specific person in the form of sculpture or some other three-dimensional medium. The use of the term is normally restricted to certain contexts in a somewhat arbitrary way: recumbent effigies on tombs are so called, but standing statues of individuals, or busts, are usually not. Likenesses of religious figures in sculpture are not normally called effigies. Effigies are common elements of funerary art, especially as a recumbent effigy (in a lying position) in stone or metal placed on a tomb, or a less permanent "funeral effigy", placed on the coffin in a grand funeral, wearing real clothing. Figures, often caricature in style, that are damaged, destroyed or paraded in order to harm the person represented by magical means, or merely to mock or insult them or their memory are also called effigies.

It is common to burn an effigy of a person ("burn in effigy") as an act of protest.

The word comes, perhaps via French, from the Latin, meaning "representation", and originally was used in English in the plural onlyGeven a single image was "the effigies of ...". The word occurs in Shakespeare's As You Like It of 1600 (II, vii, 193), though it first appears in 1539. "In effigie" was probably understood as a Latin phrase until the 18th century.[1]"

Capsuleers are represented by their ships that they become one with. Dust mercenaries, or dare I say Effigies, are a literal physical representation of the human being they represent. May I also note, unless they are being burned or discarded, Effigies are meant to last the test of time, AKA immortal.

Something to think about.]]>

My posts sometimes bring all the devs to the yahd...

Anyway, I am not a fan of Legionnaires. It is not unique to 'us.' The Real World has Legionnaires; be they in the French Foreign Legion, part of a non-profit organization in the USA, or even a type of pneumonia. It is not tied to the world of New Eden. Capsuleer is entirely a New Eden thing: the little red line that Firefox puts under it clearly proves it. It is a term that is used to describe them perfectly. If I say "Capsuleer" to someone that I am explaining EVE to, they can immediately understand just how different the universe is that such a term would/could exist. The Valkyrie (pilots) in Valkyrie are obviously based on real world mythology. However, it is a term used to describe who they are. People choose the best pilots out there, steal them, and turn them into Clone Pilots like what happened with R+n. It does have some real world connection but quite little in the end.

Legionnaires is really quite ubiquitous. I think we should go with something that doesn't connect 'us' to the real world. I like "Immortals" because of the final line of the trailer but New Eden kind of has a surplus of people that 'live' forever so the name doesn't make them unique. Immortal does. However, because of CCP's love for their viking heritage, I propose:

Einherjar
These were great heroes that fell on the battlefield in honor and were brought to Valhalla by the Valkyrie to prepare for Ragnarok. The More Sand in the Box keynote already let slip that "Valhalla (tm)" was going to be something. This is something that does have some connection to the Real World but if I am talking to my friend and trying to get them to try out Legion, if I say "We are the Einherjar" not only will I get massive nerd credit for knowing how to pronounce it thanks to listening to it repeated for hours but they will know "ah, this is something in the game's universe."]]>

I think, all EVE capsuleers are carebears since they are afraid to get their hands dirty on the battlefield.
