The CPM will be a player elected group that will essentially become part of the 'development' process for Dust 514. They are supposed to be the representation of the community and being able to have a very good gauge of how dust 514 players feel and help advice CCP on things to do and not to do. For example if CCP says they want to introduce a buy-able golden gun that does 500x more damage over the standard pay with isk guns I would tell them they're idiots and give them reasons why its a bad idea and the community is going to skin you for it.
If CCP wanted to add pink ponies and raid bosses it would be up to me to tell them no as well.
If CCP said what about adding capture the flag, king of the hill and escort delivery modes to arena up and comming I would be all for it.
They have to work hard and give up quite a bit of game time in order to do this though and have to process what the community is going though, dealing with post election politics of drafting and revising the constitutional 'white paper' every session, having town hall meeting with you guys, pow wows with our counterparts with the eve online folks, speaking at fan fest, meeting the developers in shanghai. Its work and it should be done by the ones most dedicated to the community.
For CPM 0 CCP is hand picking them in order to have them help draft the initial white papers, the voting process as well as do everything CPM 1 is also expected to do. |

Iron wolf saber has got it right.
its easy for developers to lose touch with the, community hell it happened in eve, and when that happens the game goes down the tubes fast, so ccp started the CSM in eve so that they could focus on what was important to the existing community, as well as collaborate with that community on acceptable ways to expand the games appeal to new players.
for dust there is so much going on in the development that ccp can't talk about with the community, so its hard for the community to give concise critical feed back. The CPM is being enacted as a way to form a bridge so that communication can be streamlined. That means what we want implemented or changed gets done faster and changes that ccp wants to make are vetted and weighed against community desires before they get implemented.
Now granted this first CPM probably wont accomplish much in this regard, they have a lot of setting up and learning of their rolls to do, but its an important first step. Another thing to under stand is that CPM members are doing this out of a commitment to the community and are basically picking up a part time job with no pay, that will mean sacrificing dust time as well. Granted they get to go hang with the devs in iceland?singapore?(dunno is CPM will even do that) every once or twice a year, but once again this is for (mostly)work and will be in their free time.
So in short keep these guys on speed dial because they will be your go to guys to get stuff fixed. hmmmm I feel like I just threw someones mailbox under the bus. |
