So after I joined STB and finally was able to talk to some other dust bunnies, I learned I might be in the minority preferring a keyboard/mouse vs controller. I thought everyone agreed that a keyboard/mouse was better and any competitive player would use it. I admit I just bought a PS3 FOR DUST and also a BD player and I am a hardcore PC player so maybe that's why I got that impression. I have been playing EVE for 7 years and never really played FPS games until now and I love DUST even if its rough beta right now.
What do you guys use and why? |

KB/m. I've been a PC gamer for years and owned every PlayStation console short of the handhelds. Mouse aiming is easier and comes more naturally to me from my days in Crysis, CoD W@W, and Unreal Tournament. I may not be the best Fps gamer ever to play on gods green earth, but I'll be damned if I sit still fiddling with my controller to get a decent aim on some redberry shooting at me. |

PS3 Controller; my mouse got like 800dpi and I can't ******* aim w that, at least w the DS3 i get some smooth movement while shooting the target, but kb/m got better initial response time even if later I miss every shot |

I prefer a hybrid setup. Nav/3rd party wand controller & a gaming mouse. I grew up on PC FPS' & have always prefered a mouse for aiming, but I hate using the keyboard for movement. Now if we could only get custom key mapping in-game. |

Although I used to play games from the Counterstrike, Quake and Unreal series a lot, and am accustomed to playing with the Kb/M setup, I prefer using the controller in DUST. My only console-FPS experience is with Goldeneye and Perfect Dark. The main reason is that it's my console, and I like to lounge on my sofa and just use a controller instead of setting up the Kb/M, the latter would just be kind of awkward. I find it a bit more comfortable this way if I play for an hour straight. |

I'm in the dual-wielding category...

KB/M doesn't feel natural in Dust. I'm trying to get used to how odd it feels, but I think I will stick with the DS3 if I don't improve using the KB/M soon. |

Nav controller + mouse is the best of both, you get the precision aiming from the mouse and the analog movement from the controller but it will be a crippled setup until we can remap controls. |

The problem lies in the fact the keymapping for the KB/M is horrid. Also the mouse tracking seems off sometimes. Then you have the glitch where spacebar opens your over view sometimes. |

KB/M, but my mouse is a really crappy wireless mouse, I need to connect up my gaming mouse to my PS3 sometime and try that. What sucks about the first mouse is that the DPI's waaay too low. I move it slightly to try and move a pixel, it doesn't move, until I go too far and it jumps to the next one over... It's hard to snipe like that! |

imo
if the mouse has high enuff DPI id use it (mine doesnt)
the right thumbstick on the DS3 currently sucks big time had no issues back prior an including the e3 build now it jumps everywhere i can aim to the enemies left and the slightest movment to the right to get the dot on the redberry would send the crosshairs to there right (DAMM) got to move it back left DAMM strafe strafe strafe
i constantly feel im fighting the controls to get anywhere the turn acceleration kicks in to early and to fast on the ds3 rightstick ive been saying it since september the deadzone option dont help much increasing there sive just moves the turn acceleration further from the center of the stick but doesnt stop how fast it kicks in once u leave the deadzone reducing it just makes the touch of a muse the touch of an elephant

Try getting for example a logitech mouse (G500) with on board memory, then you can program the mouse on your PC and then use the bindings on your ps3 :-)
I am trying keyboard/mouse and ds3/mouse right now. I like both equally but it is quite nice to play in the sofa with ds3/mouse combo. |

I use a ps3 controller on PC games, and lets just say, That stereotype " Mouse and keyboard players can never be beat by console peasants" doesnt work on me. But I may not me the majority who can give a mouse and keyboard player a run for their money. |

I can see your point through the trees, but alas, a lot of PC's are designed solely to run top end games.
A lot of people prefer PC, as it is the medium that allows upgrading of the system hardware, and quite easily at that.
This means developers are not limited to the capabilities of said PC market for 7 years, as they are with most consoles.
That being said, I do prefer consoles, simply because I can easily whittle away 6-8 hours on my couch chilling like a boss.
PC's always seemed a little less comfortable to me, and my wife won't allow me to buy a reclining PC set up to rectify that problem ha ha :).

A controller is better for certain games, such as racing, FIFA, etc, as it has the analog movement, i.e. you can move in any direction you want without using more than one input. If I wanted to play a racing game on a KBM, I would be abysmal, and would lose a few seconds a lap on inefficient turning. Yes, I know, I've measured it on F1 2010.
However, KBM is better at games such as strategy and FPS's. FPS's because it's easier to aim with a mouse - you can choose how fast to move the mouse very easily instead of trying to be careful with how far you move the analog stick. I'll assume strategy games are fairly self-explanatory in this regard. |

KB/M here, I only bought the PS3 to play DUST. I have noticed some slower turning speeds with that on tank turrets, I'll try it at 100% sensitivity and see the difference |

KB/M except in turrets. I use a controller for installations simply because I have consistant movement one way or another. I switch to mouse once I have a bead on someone.
YOu can't be the precision of a mouse when you know how to use it and have a mouse that works with this. |
