So, I asked the question about how Factions work in Dust 514 and it brought up another topic which is that we(the mercenaries) are an existential threat to the established order of things since we are immortal... Is this how CCP planed the mercenaries to be viewed? Immortal soldiers that have ruined the established order and be considered worse than the criminals? I personally thought conscience transfer was developed so soldiers can work for their Factions w/o having to sacrifice their lives... Any thoughts? |

If you look at the EVE lore, the immortal pod pilots (capsuleers, empyreans, etc.) are viewed as both a blessing and a curse. Every faction needs the capsuleers because they can do things that normal pilots can't or won't.
Unfortunately, empyreans are also notoriously inhuman in their motivations and are infamous for wreaking havoc and wantonly killing thousands of innocent people. The plot of one of the EVE novels actually revolves around the survivor of a capsuleer attack on an unarmed habitation module seeking vengeance against these flying embodiments of evil.
So far, cloned soldiers are presenting the same issues, with the added problem that the first generation troopers tend to go bonkers and kill people (often writing "514" in blood afterwards). |

Now this seems like a good read, I just thought it was a cool number added at the end of Dust to make it sound less bland. Where can I find these novels? Do I have to read them in a certain order? |

Our characters are all supposed to be realy evil.
I did the lolcaust, a planet existed of humanoids that resembled anthromorphic fennic foxes, and my character killed them all, billions. Offical backstory so ccp doesn't have to include races other than human.

Well, considering the executor of the Caldari state wants to see every last one of us eliminated, I'd say it's not good.
Besides that, he is only the Executor of the Caldari state, and the chances are very good that the reputation of the clone soldiers is largely the result of someone else tampering with and controlling clones at specific times to do some damage in an attempt to sabotage our reputations.
The why is unknown, but there are many potential reasons that come to mind. Perhaps they are only being used to destroy factions of undesirables with the potential for plausible deniability by the parties using them for such.
Perhaps some criminal organization sees the use of these forces as a significant threat to their operations and is trying to eliminate that threat, or lay claim to the technology themselves while preventing the empires from having legal access to it.
Perhaps clone soldiers are somehow linked to some ancient AI through their technology, as suspected, and that AI is taking over and controlling them to cause significant damage to the empires and create political unrest. Maybe there are only a small number of clone soldiers that are subject to this, but the effect is that all will be held accountable given the threat.
Perhaps the Sansha found some means to dominate clone soldiers and take control of them. The technology may allow them to exert control through their domination techniques using the soldiers own implants against them.
..most likely, it is as the back story seems to suggest, and directly related to the technology however. This doesn't mean it will affect all clone soldiers, but there will be a percentage, and that will be enough to discredit the reliability of the whole. |
