Going through shotguns, swarm launchers, and even rifles I see varients of the gun that just plain suck.
Shotguns, the higher level ones are breach (two shots) or specialist (lower fitting requirements)
Anyone smart will skill up or get mods to fit the item, so any bonus of fitting requirements is kind of.... useless. Add to that the downside is less ammo storage.
Both versions of course are compared to the regular shot gun, but at higher levels, they are the only versions, so it is not likely they are comparing to anything but themselves.
What I realy like is the current shotgun, I am a bad shot sometimes, and have many opponents to kill, and don't like reloading in the middle of a fight so 2 shots is too few (plus I can oneshot most stuff anyway if I hit, so why just two shots).
I think for every meta level the shotgun should have 3 versions, first one is standard but more damage (5% increase with each meta level increase, doubling the price) the second one should be the breach, and the final one a rapid fire shotgun that can fire on full auto.
Same with rifles, for some reason until the gek you have weapons with crapstats and function-ability, with DPS comparable to millita version, what should realy exist for meta 2 is throwing out the slow firerate one and replace it with a rifle that is upgraded standard, and have the others variants off of that. 3 distinct branches, more shots less range, normal, powerfull single shot long range wtth scope.
Any kind of variant that's bonus is lower fitting is crap, throw it out.
Ideally for all weapons in each tech or meta level a enhanced normal version should exist to which two specialized branches can compare to in the same tech or meta level, depending on preference or situation a person could pick from any of the 3, ccp could monitor versions with crappy stats and modify them. |

Disagree on this. If it is a choice of skilling into a different suit and also skilling into different modules just to fit one weapon, sometimes it is better just to get the weapon that is less of a cpu hog.
Makes for better options for clean, well thought out, carefully focused min max character building. |
