(Note: Discussion, not Feedback, pls no move okguy?)
So, I was just wondering what everyone else thought about Armor/Shield bars displaying above enemies heads? Personally, I slightly dislike it, I mean when you see a guy in a heavy suit and he's got low Armor, he's not a worrying sight since he's going to die with 1 burst of my Gorewreck, but if I couldn't see his armor/shield bars, I'd be a lot less likely to engage him from the front, instead trying to flank him.
So, what do you guys think about them? |

I'm gonna guess that when the game finally releases, they'll have a HardCore mode where the Energy Bars will be removed.
For me though, they're irrelevant as I'll engage someone regardless!!! |

+1 to the OP.
I know some people are gonna come back and say that 'oh but its your scanner that gives you that info' and start whining but this would certainly make the game more exciting and frantic. If you don't know how much life that heavies got left after you've just emptied a clip into him it'll make you think twice. |

While I agree that it could add another dimension of complexity to the game to remove the health display, I must bring up a point. Friendly fire is currently off. I think the display makes it easier to tell friend from foe. The team killing will be bad enough as it is. For some reason people like to step in front of their team mates while they are firing. I promise that stepping in front of me while im firing my HMG is going to result in death.

In my whineyest possible voice ... But the scanner tells you !
He's got a point though ... it's a facility of the Eve scanners that you know how much health your opposition has, but I see your point that it would make it a bit interesting to not know.
Perhaps this could work in nullsec battles but leave them on in high and lowsec. Would be I interesting to test to see how it alters things overall. |

See, personally I totally understand seeing the health of your allies, with the dropsuit itself giving vital statistics back to the MCC which in turn uploads all data to your tacnet. But totally agree on Friendly Fire, I can't wait for that :P |

Just an idea:
Scan Profile should affect the shield/armour bars.
At max detection range, you can only get the red arrow. Have to get closer - and the amount by which you have to get closer increases with lower scan profile.
Scouts fitted and skilled for stealth operations should be difficult to locate, and harder to gauge the threat of.
Also, Scanners should provide more of a buff to enemy health detection than to base detection range. |

I think it would be neat if I could fit a module that always makes it look (to the other team) like I have no shield and low armor. It would allow for interesting surprises and it would generally make people distrust the armor/shield bars.
More generally I would love to see more gear that disrupt the other team's information. For example, a logi could have a jammer that reduces the scan range/precision of the enemies that he points it at. |

Perhaps they can implement the "suit signature" skills and modules that reduce your signature into the bars. If you have modules, or passive skills, say like two levels higher (you have scanning to level 2, but they have dampening to level 4) it can hide their bars, etc. |

I think the levels should be shown.
If you shoot an enemy and his bars go down, you can't start complaining that "I hit him and he took no damage!" Also, if you shoot a team mate (when friendly fire is on) and his bars go down, you know to stop!
I like Garrett Blacknova's idea of not showing full info when the target is too far away. I don't like UnknowingTea's idea of showing full even when it's not because it will get too many complaints that people are cheating. |

I think by HC mode you mean low + null
I dont really mind them to be honest but yeh i think it will either be scanner strength + distance, wether you see them or not, (as if you were close to a drop suit you'd be able to see/scan the bullet holes and burn marks if the armour is failing or the shields flickering if the shields were low or dependent on what sec you are in, as high=you see bars, null=no bars |

Donno in the constext of DUST mercs it makes sence maybe if you only see the bars if you have intel on the target by someone activly spotting them which up loads their information to tacnet, again amount of intel given should be based on skill, modules and suit type,
Honestly i like having the bars as they tell me the gun is actually doing something in a game with such long times to kill

That aside, the bars make sense given their association with damage indicators in EVE, and the fact that we're using some pretty high-tech gear that could doubtlessly carry the sensors to pick up on that. |

I like the idea, but I would like there to still be a way to find their armor and shield. Maybe just keep the information their that goes along with the information you see when you place your recticle over them.
keep the bars over friendlies' heads though. |

Think it's fine the way it is, the thing is, hardcore modes in most games means less health; so it's instant death anyway, no recharge, no HUD.
All of these things are not comparable with this game. Your health is setup by your moduals, your recharge is again dependent on the same. Finally, your HUD. Your in a super advanced drop suit, connected to the tach net, which was built in a world were knowing the status of your enemy is your god given right |

Lot's of nice ideas in here.
Hard core mode sounds really strange to me, this is a game that fit's into a universe where there are a war going on, how would hard core mode fit into this? On the other hand differences between null and empire makes perfect sense in the eve context so that could be "hardcore mode".
Having modules/skills/distance control how much information there is on enemies sounds very fitting for a eve game this is a great way to go.
Ohh there has been developers saying there will be friendly fire? That's great will be total chaos! But no more throwing random grenades around. |

I dunno. On one hand, knowing your friendlies health is the a given. I think it would be hetter if it was a module, if you have it equipped you could see the enemies health, and by aiming at an enemy it would make their health appear to teammates also. Paving the way for logis to further assist teammates.
I like it off, but with the module bringing it back. Also, snipers would be more useful, if they fit the module and watch over enemies to cover you, it would get them more points, but also be a boon to you in combat. |

I like this. Don't just give us the information. Make us work for it.
I like the idea that this is something that can be revealed with scanning skills. Allie health and armor info should be shared between team members through their information network, but you would need the skills and equipment to hack into the enemy network and see their info. Higher tier scanning would hopefully allow you to share that information with nearby players allowing for another player oriented tactical option.

There's so much display on screen. Reduce it and it might reduce the frame rate issues that people are complaining about. Also, it gets so confusing if they all gathered in one place with the health bars covering each other.
Why would I care for my teammates' health bars if I don't use a revival kit? Why do I have to see a downed team mate if I can't revive? |

Because you can then see who is taking fire, giving you a good idea of where the enemy is, and maybe, please forgive me for saying so I feel like a right chump as its totally a mute subject gay thing to say; SO YOU CAN HELP THEM! The lack of team work on this game is frightening. I can't wait for it to go live with the core territory capture gameplay.
Maybe I'm expecting too much of a ps3 game, but in eve (shock horror, omg eve player stfu), when you see a friendly taking fire in a battle you help him/her. When you see an enemy taking fire, you help kill him/her. You don't do it for the kd/r you do it because your corp needs EVERYONE backing EVERYONE up. That sniper off in the distance, he can change his target and help that scout corpie who just ran into a heavy. Is the scout angry that his kill was 'stolen'? No because your playing for the good of the corp, not your k/d ratio. The corp wins, you win. To the victors go the spoils, not the 1 guy on one side with no deaths and 10 kills.
Sooner this game gets real, sooner we'll see real teamwork. |

I like the bars. I vote for them to stay. I can appreciate your point of view and why you would wish them gone. but what is the alternative? lots of extra graphics to show wounds, broken suits, no longer shiny? Bars are easier and simpler |
