A few things I took note of while playing this weekend:
- Tutorial of some sort needed
A tutorial of some sort is needed. As A good example, I can't count the number of people I came across that had no idea that there are 2 LARGE screens in the War Room (the room right before a battle starts) that specifically tells you if you are attacking or defending. I myself missed those screens as well, probably due to the way they are situated and you have to be fairly close to make out the words on the screens.
Or you have people driving around in a vehicle / turret and just wiping out all the supply depots, just cause they are "red." There is also nothing telling them that their SP is directly related to their contribution in-game; and "contribution" is not exactly explained either. I myself was confused by it. There would be battles were I was taking objectives, taking down enemies, healing, etc... and ended up with 5k SP, then there were matches were I had 1 kill and 1 objective taken, and got 30,000 SP. Could be a bug, but it just wasn't consistent.
- Controls
At best, I found them to be "OKAY." I couldn't quite get the precision I wanted. I would try and target a character and it would be like the cross-hairs auto-skipped over the character As well many times, they just stopped working. R1 was really big at that. You would be normal firing weapons then all the sudden, it would just stop working. Sometimes re-spawning would work, but for me and others, it did not always work so we were stuck with no way of firing on ANY loadout. Then all the sudden, it would just start working again.
Or for instance, you are in the War room, if you open chat or the team menu, hitting the up directional button acts as if you hit the "O" button to exit. Controls could definitely us some fine tuning.
- Microphones
I know it's still a WiP, but the MICs are definitely buggy. I was in a few matches were it showed NO ONE had a MIC, when in fact I knew that was not true because I have a MIC. No MIC symbols next to anyone, and 100% complete silence. Then you have the issue of hearing the enemies MICS, and not that of your teammates, yet your teammates hear you (I know - ironic) or you hear BOTH of them (that is extremely confusing - believe me).
Also, it would be nice if the VC option was set to ON by default instead of OFF as it enables those without MICs to hear the strategy talk happening on the team chat channel.
- New Players vs Older Established players
Over time, people who have been playing for a while (lets say 1 - 2 years) will have a clear advantage over those who would maybe be newly interested in playing. Considering the armor / weapon difference, they will have their starter militia gear, going up against someone fully decked out. Possibly a battlefield where ONLY Militia Starter gear could be used. At least give them a fighting chance to level up their gear to be somewhat useful in battle rather than mostly another target.
- Ambush
This should really be renamed to Free-For-All; it's not even "technically" an ambush. The randomness of you spawning right next to enemies and shot just as you spawn I think drove a lot of people nuts. There seems to be no objective other than spawn, kill, spawn, kill. The map itself is not bad, but could use a bit more "structure." I t just appears to be random spawning with no point to it (IMO). And from what I saw, people tended to stay away from this mode almost entirely.
- Skirmish
While this mode was the more played mode over the weekend, it could use some tweaking. One thing that comes to mind are spawn locations. It is very easy for someone to sit and spawn camp since both sides spawn at the exact same spots when they take over and objective. I saw lots of spawn camping happening and it's no fun re-spawning only to be shot in the back the moment you re-spawn. Maybe make it so that for a few seconds, you are invincible after spawning (5 seconds maybe).
- Scopes
I understand about why they look like they do, but it is very difficult to use them - esp if you are new. Trying to walk while using a scope is nearly impossible. It just doesn't feel right firing from the hit all the time. Maybe allow for there to be sights as well as scopes so that those who want the zoom can have it, but those who just want to look down sights for better accuracy can do it as well.javascript:if%20(typeof%20posting=='undefined'||posting!=true)%20{posting=true;__doPostBack('forum$ctl00$PostReply','');}
- Vehicles
One of my biggest pet peeves was being able to use any vehicle, pull right UP TO the objective, and camp it. Again, because you spawn in the same spot your enemy spawns in, they know EXACTLY were you will be, and can just sit in-between the spawn and the objective with a vehicle and a couple grunts and just spawn camp.
Those were just some of the things off the top of my head. I'll probably eventually think of more but that's what I got for now.
