What most people haven't seen yet is this.
It's not too much the actually problem with shields,
BUT MORE THE PROBLEM HOW YOU FIT THEM AND HOW YOU USE THEM!!!
Get ready for a deep analysis.
Let's start by comparing each assault when fitted racially. (Pro) (all stats are from protofits.com with maxed skills) (excluding minmatar. They are fine imo, this is more the anti shields weapon/race to the caldari)
Pro Gallente (2 ferro, 2 rep, 1 kincat,)
Shields -193.75 Armor-509 Shield recharge-20 Armor repair-23.25
Pro caldari (3 extender 2 recharger, 3 regulator)
Shields-561.55 Armor-193.75 Shield recharge-66 Armor rep-1.5
Pro Amarr (2 plates, 2 reactives, 1 cardio)
Shields-181.25 Armor- 822.75 Shield recharge-20 Armor repair-8
Straight off the bat, compare the foes. Caldari has more shields than Gallente has armor. Caldari weapons are already high damage. They have more regen then Gallente have armor rep. AND you can swap the second recharger for a damage mod and still have more regen than armor has rep.
So far, caldari wins.
Gallente, with thier stats above, have less hp and rep to try to get close to caldari to shred them. Another advantage for caldari. The caldari fight at range where they are near immune to assault rifles.
Another point. 2,0,0.
Gallente are fast and use thier highs to wreck shields. Point for Gallente. Yet they have to avoid fire to get close enough. 2,1,0
Let's talk about Amarr. In a true battle caldari to Amarr, both would fight at range. Amarr have the advantage of damage mods, point. 2,1,1.
Yet caldari can out rep them by soooooo much. So while the caldari are ducking and recharging, the Amarr are just standing and delivering. After some time, te caldari would win because of thier regen AND BECAUSE of longer range weapons. Plus they are high damage. Another point for caldari. 3.1.1.
So what's the actual problem with shields? The biggest problem i see are the following.
1. People are to close to the enemy 2. Lack of proper fittings 3. Variety of fits
Again, caldari are meant to be used at range. Why WHY would you be so close to even??? Idk. I still do it anyways to the strong points. People need to know that fluxes, assault rifles, and scramblers (that are very good at cqc) will beat shooed a any day. So if people know that... Why don't the go by that and stay at a distance???? Ignorance?
Second, lack of proper fitting. When fitted correctly, shields are amazing at range. Most weapons can't hit your armor, you have Nanohives to spam at range for days, it's a great feeling. Now, this is dust, you have the freedom to choose how to fit your suits, but ou should keep in mind that not every conbi is best. With that being said, if you are complaining TOO much about shields, start fitting them racially. Because something is not right with your fit or your play style.
3rd. One big advantage of armor suits is how they fit thier suits. For example, I could make an Amarr tank with very good reps and that would obvious wreck
What's the point I want to get CCP? Well, to a point, yes, shields do need to be worked on, but keep in mind these stats. Shields are very good when used properly. A lot of info/complaints from shield users are because of "bad" fittings or other factors. As mostly an armor tanker, don't take this as me trying to avoid shooed buff. I also use shields on my calass. But just keep in mind CCP, shields aren't as bad as what people are saying. They have multiple advantages that many just don't consider. When buffing shields, but them well, don't make them too good either. (Not like that will happen)
And just keep in mind... Shields aren't as bad as many thing.

I agree shields aren't terrible, but are the defence advantages of your Caldari suit enough to counterbalance the fact the Gallente suit will have a lot more mobility and do a lot more damage? This is the issue, the trade-off is considered out of whack.
These fits are much more similar to each other, and so provide a better comparison:
Caldari assault
Gallente assault
You can see the tradeoff much more clearly. Same bonus damage, similar bonus mobility. Gallente has 7% more hp. Caldari has 73% faster regen rate but a 2 second delay.
Is the bonus regen enough to balance the hp gap and the delay? Perhaps not. |
