As stated in another thread, I will begin to skill into caldari assaults to prove that the community mainly sucks. I will record my fittings, tactics, and thoughts here.
As I don't have enough SP or LP on hand to use anything besides militia, I'm going to start with this:
Skinweave Caldari Medium Frame
Rail Rifle
Bolt Pistol
Locus Grenade
Compact Nanohive
Basic Shield Recharger
Basic Light Weapon Damage Mod
Basic Shield Regulator
As far as tactics, I can't list anything yet, as it'll just be trial and error. See you in a few battles.

The Caldari assault isn't actually that bad. It's because people are morons and only go FOTM and never use it again.
My most used fit is a raven C-1 with 340 shield and 260 armour, rr and bolt pistol, 11k isk.

I can imagine the Minmatar Assault being quite beastly with the ACR.
To Bob, the tactic I use with my dragonfly suit is to just hang back a little ways behind some blues so I can duck behind cover when my shields drop without worrying about being bum rushed. Works out well for the most part.

To those wanting me to run minmatar: I have no doubts of its capabilities, and neither do the people I was talking to about assault.
Here's my experience so far:
While it is dependent on cover, the suit has at least proven to be very capable of providing support fire.
As far as weapons, I still dislike the rail rifle, but am starting to become a fan of the bolt pistol- instead of being a backup weapon, this baby has a place of its own, where I'll use it even when my rail rifle has full ammo. The shorter charge time and higher damage can make it extremely deadly when your target isn't strafing constantly.
Fitting-wise, I feel like I need to put even more into getting a fast shield recharge.
As far as tactics, it's fairly simple: stick to cover, and keep your distance. Situational awareness is also EXTREMELY important, as the charge requires that you aren't taken by surprise.
I haven't tried it yet, but my first bit of SP got me out of militia for this fit:

It's not bad, but the Caldari Commando gets the same reload bonus, plus damage mods.
There is literally no reason to use it besides aesthetics and greater speed. The assault blanket bonus is alright since it lowers the fitting reqs of light/sidearms. |

Not too much has changed since the last time, aside from just being better with it. I'm actually starting to feel like I don't need to prove any more.
For the sake of showing off assault versatility (and because of annoying stuff), I also added 2 more fits to the arsenal.
