I'm about 45 days or so into DUST and was wondering what amount of ISK other players try to stay above?
I'm not asking for posts from vets bragging about how much they have.
I've saved about 30 mil so far. It could have been more but I have to enjoy running decent gear sometimes to keep things fun.
Is there an ISK reserve you reached where you feel ok running full proto all the time? If so what was it?
Obviously there is no amount of ISK you cannot exhaust eventually if you are going ISK negative the majority of the time.

0 isk.
I found that having a 'safe' balance takes away from my enjoyment in this game where there is barely any to be found behind this poor UI/controls(kb/m user), bugs, stomping and players themselves.

I generally don't go below 200 million, anything over that tends to go to my vehicle alt to blow on ADS's. I got to 200 mill after a re-spec where they sold all your loot and gave you the isk.

My comfort zone so far is 20 million ISK. That way, if I have no choice but to go full proto in order to compete in a match and I know I will die a lot, I at least have some backup money to fall back on.

Been gridning ambush in cheap suits for best part of year so have just over bill saved up for when market opens up and i tend to keep few mill laying around for the suits. they cost me 10-20k a suit these days so i don't need much and i move the isk to an alts corp so i'm not tempted to just go splurge it on 1000's of proto suits

I list the Isk cost of my suits next to them in the fitting names. (Unless they're my ****** experimental suits I just use those up and decide at the end if I want to keep them after 50-100 deaths.)
My rule of Thumb: If I am going to make 150k+ in a match I do not spend more then 150k. I roll out a ****** experimental suit to test the waters at the beginning of a match:
>If a few minutes in we are stomping; I bring out my party time potato cannon suit or other ridiculous suits to **** around in.
>If a few minutes in we are getting stomped; I usually switch to Forge Sniping to trolololol the proto spam.
>If a few minutes in it's actually a close match; I bring out more of my tried and tested Fun Police Officer suits. Fitted with night sticks, riot shields, and a no nonsense attitude towards all that is red.
If I'm in a squad with whiny try hards that believe you must have dah best suit in pubbies, depending on if I like them or not i'll roll out my best suit combos in unlimited amounts. Or If I don't like them, I'll roll out my most ******** suits for the trick shots/dying a lot. I don't generally play with others though. I find most people don't really play this game to have fun, which is why I established my one man corp to remind people that it's a game, and yes I did just snipe you with a flaylock to be a prick, I don't care if you killed me 30 times, I still got you!
As an aside, I'm hoping to roll out community events in the future but still trying to decide on what. So far I've only got LAV Rallys. I wanted to do operation Human Torpedo where players load up in dropships and plummet to the ground throwing a locus grenade before they hit the ground but sadly CCP doesn't like fun and made it to where you can't cook grenades while base jumping. The Grenades also have a nasty habit of hurting no one but your self if you cook them and jihad sprint, though they work alright if you throw them at the last second after sprinting to them.
But more to the topic at hand, I generally just shoot for ending matches in the black, and splurging every now and then. |

I never try to get below 200,000 ISK if I can help it.
I'm not a poverty guy, I just don't seem to need a ton of cash.
Every now and then I'll go hard in pub matches so I can get a blob of ISK. Then I go shopping and get some suits, equipment and ... sniper rifles.
I love sniper rifles.
I have thousands of them.

What should be normal is not running proto all the time. Some prototype fits are pretty much as costly as the ISK you can receive in a good match. Provided that you'll die at least 1 time every battle, it's not sustainable at all for a player that makes ISK actively by playing public matches.
30mil is great for the time you have been playing. Especially if you use decent gear from time to time. That's already a comfortable zone where you shouldn't worry at all. Just keep track of the gear you're using and check if you're still growing ISK positive, slow down, or going backwards. Make decisions based on what's going on in your wallet.
Just in case, keep cheap versions of the fittings you like. |
