with all the changes the most efficiant way to build suits is to use only 2 types of modules in the highs and lows (outside of specialist builds)
all shield extenders in the highs, and all armor plates (and a rep for high armor suits) in the lows
there is now exactly one build in the game, brick tank.
CCP needs to focus on limiting the ability to do nothing but stack as much HP as possable, we have so many awesome modules in the game and every last one of them are overshadowed by just having more HP.
very few people will run specialised builds, like stealth builds, passive scan builds, or biotics builds as its REALLY hard to justify losing 25-40% extra HP while at the same time partially countering your weaknesses to certain weapons types (like min/cal suits stacking armor plates gives insurance against being compeltly mauled by a ScR)
their either needs to be incentive to use other modules, or a limitation (fitting) discouraging the stacking of both. |

my post history will confirm that in 1.8 i am a ninja hacker minmatar scout :P
all hack mods in the lows, all extenders in the highs. remotes and nova knives :P
i am that specialised build your talking about and always have been.
that doesnt change the fact that it has always been and will continue to be at a disadvantage. |

Buffing regulators would help my cal suit shield tank reliably. However with the changes to damage mods, weapons, and proficiency skills I might try out fitting shields with out the hybrid tank. I think we might see new and interesting fits in 1.8. Only time will tell though. |

I hear what your saying but am inclined to disagree, perhaps the scrub will tank up to the max, and maybe this is a good thing if they take a while longer to go down, but you know fine well that guys like me and you will continue to play the game as we always have.
Complex dmg modifier goes 10% - 5%, it isnt as massive a blow as the current QQ is already making out, I run a bpo suit with 3% mod in it and tbh, I still wreck protos with my STD AR, they will still be used, maybe some people will opt to go with more shield extenders/chargers (lol)/ whatever, but ultimately I think this is a good thing for the game.
A brick tank standing infront of a blaster HAV will still be an exceptionally funny screen shot no matter what.

Seems legit
For some reason, with TTK expected to be higher I expect to be able to use regulators on shield suits without feeling it's a waste, as well as using green and red bottles to be running all over the place and not just brick tank as everyone says will happen,
it'll be a good way to make TTK that bit higher but doesn't seem like it's gonna be worth it past the first two weeks

the wierd thing is that dmg mods are more valuble now with the nerf to proficiancy as it will be the only way outside of running a commando suit to increase your weapons off type damage :P aka its the only way to mitigate useing the wrong weapon for the job :P
minmatar commando is going to be a beast with 2 damage mods and its innate bonus.
i see it evening out to be honest.
assault/logi
caldari - pure shield + regulators gallante - armor + dmg mods minmatar - shield + biotics amaar - only true brick tank
right now its a problem because caldari and minmatar get more benifit from basic plates then alturnative modules.
i think peopel are going to catch on to the damage mods change relativly quick, dmg mods are now amazing on gallante and certain minmatar/amaar suits.

I've already switched to specialist or pure shield fits. I keep one hybrid tanked suit for special occasions but I hate being stuck in it when I do bring it out. I'm hoping the 1.8 weapon changes will make my shield fits even more useful.
I hate brick tanked suits. When I see them all I see is red until I watch their clones burn.

i think the problem truly lies in the fact that brick tanking mitigates the weakness of your main tank.
putting armor on a caldari or minmatar assault mitigates their weakness against scramblers etc etc.

I feel forced to have an armor rep on my caldari suit, if 1.8 changes that it will be a great step forward for my gamestyle personally, running to supply depots/getting logi support sometimes just isnt practical, increased ttk means increased time to take cover and recoup. This applies for everybody.
Can only be a good thing in that regard.
Best Commando though will be any commando, ScR/MD combo looks like it would be devasting atm. Maybe ScR/Magsec for anybody else, get ready to see a massive rise in Amarrians lol xD
