After discussing with some of the community and taking a lot of criticism. A better idea was born.
Each race is limited to one type of orbital support ammo, while it is true they can switch turrets, all of EVE knows that is hardly viable to do in lowsec when you have to consider PVP. So the solution
Create an Orbital Bombardment Module that fits in the highslot, extends to all races and allows the ship to switch out the ammo type to adjust to the situation on the ground, thus benefiting mercenaries and establishing more coordination with EVE pilots. This would greatly help EVE side support, and as an EVE pilot I would be extremely happy to try this feature out. This would also solve the whole, medium, large, and extra large turrets problem when it comes to orbital support because there would simply be a universal module. |

You settle for fine I'll settle for better :)
I don't know why any Dust MERCS wouldn't want their EVE players to be able to swap out orbital ammo types to provide specific support to their DUST MERCS.

Terrible idea. Why do you want to kill racial variety? D:

bad idea.
Skill books should be used to train for larger guns. Its a solid mechanic and it works.
I would rather see two variations of each ammo type. |

Just say beforehand what you need? Or go into an alliance and bring 3 players into orbit? There are enough ways. What's more important atm is more orbital ammo for Eve players. For example nuclear projectile ammo. |

Actually in some cases, assuming you are JTAC certified, you do get a choice in what's dropped, afterall that's why we have those guys attached to our squads, a module would allow larger ships with a tank who have spare highslots to provide orbitals, so the argument of losing a turret slot disappears because now your not limited to destroyers, preparation helps, especially having fleet support, that can't be denied, but your idea of ammo variety is also viable, but only for destroyers. I'm trying to allow bigger ships to provide orbitals.
+1 reviving a dead topic. Ty. -1 for going out of your way to revive a dead topic and give it a -1 conveniently after I left the alliance. ;) |

I don't disagree about having ammo variety, that's what I originally opted for, but people obviously complained saying it killed racial variety. (which is weird beause minmatar is the only one other than missile ships, with real variety in ammo type.) *rolls eyes*
I have to laugh at the joining alliance part, because few alliances have the capabilities to bring more people to the planet. Renegade Alliance found that out just 2 nights ago when we dropped 5 cruisers on their warp core stabilized commorant and maulus.
People also mentioned what you said, just say what you need before hand or bring more players.
You can't say what you need beforehand, because the guys on the ground don't know what type they need until they start playing, maybe they need emp, maybe they need broad range orbitals like hybrids, maybe they need small focused ones like lasers, who knows, certainly not the pilot who showed up in one ship and has to sit there for 3 minutes to connect.
Bring all 3 ships, let all 3 of them sit there and wait to connect based on what the dust guy says he needs, that doesn't sound like the best strategy either. Especially when you start considering time zones. Sure this is a viable option when attacking the enemy, because you can coordinate before hand, but, it's not a viable option when being attacked and not knowing if your EVE pilots have to work that day or not.
Either an orbital module or ammo variety would help, but the orbital module doesn't leave you a sitting duck while you are connected if you are the only one online at the time and gives you some soloing capabilities because now you could tank in a cruiser or battlecruiser. Not to mention a loan destroyer on scan at a district satellite. Pretty easy target. Assuming it's not an ewar trap.

Now you too can swap turrets while waiting to drop and OB. With the release of Eve's latest patch the advent of the Mobile Depot is upon us. Launch it in space to swap out modules, drones, ammo and turrets to be at you most optimal effectiveness. Perfect for running missions such as the LV4 Dread Pirate Scarlet where multiple types of NPC Enemies can crush you ship if you do not have an omnitank.

You're so right, why wouldn't I want to put rail guns on my thrasher, or lasers on my catalyst, or projectile turrets on my coercer. now not only am I a sitting duck for 3 minutes, I've killed my dps, and provided laughter in local for everyone after my killmail is posted, brilliant, an excellent solution! Mobile Depots for the win! |
