Is the new flavor of the month armor tanking? <.<...Lol I did it two months ago when it wasn't cool. But no seriously. Who bright mind did this start with? You do know there's such a thing as mass drivers right? After realizing most of the enemy team was running Gallente Armor Tanking Gear, I pulled out a Standard MD with Complex mods and laid into them. My WP/Kills jumped.
I know very well about the mobility of the Gallente suit and how OP it feels but it seriously has major weaknesses that make me question why would it end up as a flavor of the month? |

You do know that is kinda the point, each suit has its strengths and weaknesses, Shield tanks are totally wiped out by flux grenades. |

I know it's the point and that's EXACTLY why I don't get the flavor of the month deal. Besides it's armor-tanking with speed, it's pretty norm. |

I too armour tanked before it was cool. Running counter fits to take them out is the smart thing to do.
I also suspect the proliferation of armour suits will decrease after the new rifles come out, as they look like very solid weapons and both deal more damage to armour than shield. |

Since 1.4 shields took an unnecessary hit when TTK drastically decreased. Modules like shield rechargers/energizers and regulators are completely useless with their designed purpose- burst tanking and hit-and-run tactics. Faster kills/deaths mean less downtime between fights and with the current base shield delay and recharge rate values, it's better to just stack extenders and plates for the biggest buffer instead of a better self sustainability. Having the most commonly used light weapons damaging shields over armor doesn't help the case either. Either TTK needs to be substantially increased (preferably by rescinding the 10% damage buff in Uprising) or dropsuit base shield recharge rate/delay and shield recharger/regulator/energizer modules need a buff. |

Actually I used to shield tank all the time, as they have better regen (even with my min logi at lvl 5), and are way more resistant than armor.
But now I armor tank because I have to go up against PIE in FW, which uses all Amarr weaponry, and a SCR Rifle and LR will eat through your shields without a second though.
So I guess you can blame PIE?.... |

Only took me a day to abandon my first proto suit for CQC in favor of a much weaker, MUCH cheaper suit. I can die ten times for the same financial hit as my proto, while giving up maybe two or three kills. I'm at peace with the trade-off. |

Honestly, I play much better in my ADV suit with MLT/Basic fittings than in my Proto, even against Proto opposition. |

That's because there are a couple with armor tanking and the whole tanking system, currently.
1) Players assume the higher numbers are better which is 100% false from shields you get more HP per 1 point than you do 1 point of armor, you get around 1.3 HP per shield HP when counting for all the damage modifiers of both styles. To put into perspective lets say I told you I will give you 1000 Yen for 500 USD ignortant of the conversion factor this looks like a good deal but in reality 1000 Yen is worth far less than 500 USD.
2) CCP has yet to fix the damage modifiers against armor from explosives which are to high and sometimes glitchy.
3) Shield tankers dual tank rather than shield tank, and unlike EVE, dual tanking is loads better than tanking your style purely. Now Armor tankers can also dual tank but because of low shield repairs and few High slots a dual tanked Armor suit is far less effective than a dual tanked shield suit.
Overall I believe there needs to be an rework of dropsuits and their mechanics. The modules are fixed but the suits aren't, for example a Caldari Assault suit without mods has more HP than a Gallente suit without mods because the Caldari suit has the same number of shields as the Gallente has armor, and like I previously said shields have more HP, survivability, per point than Armor. |
