Part of the problem with protostomping in pub matches is bad matchmaking - it's hard for the matchmaker to compensate for six good players deploying on the same side.
Another part of the problem is that a squad's effectiveness increases geometrically as its size increases; with two players in a squad, you have much fewer tactical options than a six-man squad packed to the gills with injectors, hives, uplinks and multiple grenade and weapon types.
Other games, like World of Tanks, lower the squad size cap in pub matches for this and similar reasons.
Do you think lowering the squad cap to, say, three, in public contracts would severely reduce the impact of proto stomping? |

You don't need to be in a squad to protostomp
More squad members = Less kills
Less squad member = More kills.

It may mititgate the issue but it will not fix it.
Protostomping can still be an issue with solo players.
A proper fix to matchmaking should probably fix it.
In some situations there may not be a fix.
For example imagine you're playing on the Oceania server and there are 7 players. 6 of them are protobears and in a squad. The other guy is a day old newb who just left the academy because he figured out how to blow up installations. If they're all queueing for ambush then there is nothing that the matchmaker can really do. They're going to end up on opposite sides nad the poor newbro is going to get stomped. |

The only way to balance proto pub stomps in DUST's current state is by creating tiered restricted matchmaking which I have my doubts CCP will give a chance seeing as they have a strong stance against seperating the community, as a whole, in any way. When the population drops to a dangerous level, CCP might change their stance.
The other option is to overly inflate the player population so matchmaking has a better chance of matching teams evenly where you'll see groups of 6 protos facing against each other in opposite teams. Since this option is nigh impossible with the current population, for CCP to try to work with this option wont end well but certainly nice practice should DUST finally get off the ground. |

If squad size was 3, then there'd be three proto suits on each side. |

This combined with a type of leveling algorythm to balance the number of squads per side I think could actually do the trick.

Honestly gear limitations in High Sec battles isn't much of a far shot from EVE, as there are many things in EVE that cannot be used in High/Low sec. While I dont think Faction Warfare should be limited all that much, providing some safe haven with gear limitations in High Sec battles might be appropriate.

I guess the point I'm trying to make is that a full six-man squad of good players out of 16 are really hard to balance against, whether they're proto stomping, or just using cost-effective fits like everyone else.
If instead it was a three-man squad of good players, it would allow the matchmaker to balance the rest of the teams better.

make an ambush mode with no squads allowed. or make an ambush mode with STD or MLT gear only. or make FW enticing for squads to play.
all these options got their own ups and downs but theyd all solve the problem. im personally for a all STD or mlt game mode, as it fits the bill of what MMOs do(having a noobie arena) and in chrome there were times when both sides used not even a single ADV item, and these games were the most fun i ever had in dust. even tanks couldn't mess with it because STD modules and a STD blaster wouldn't be too good of a tank, the STD blasters are inaccurate and dont slay infantry easy while the STD forge guns could do some damage to STD fitted tanks. tanks would be tough, but with a STD blaster they wouldn't be gamebreaking. |

The solution is high pay/salvage faction warfare. Adjust prices so it possible to run only standard/advance in pubs, but worth while for proto in FW. It's hard for new players to have fun when they are severely out geared. |
