MMO's should never be 'reviewed', because they are always changing...always in a state of flux. Smart online news outlets are better off having someone playing the game and publishing pieces on updates and how they affect game-play...say weeks after they take effect.
Someone just jumping into an MMO and trying to review it as a newer player is pretty foolish. |

Ansiiis The Trustworthy wrote:Maybe after 2.0 or maybe even now as the new hit detection is a huge improvement. There are a broad spectrum of reviewers out there, many of us obsessively read every review that was posted and still do. Some have posted updates on their original reviews.
One of the take aways from many of those reviews was that the reviewers saw the obvious potential of the game and felt strongly that it would be worth a second look once CCP got their act together. The low scores were totally justified, ofc, and for many it was presented as a combination of maintaining credibility and tough love.
Those reviewers are still watching DUST, and no doubt polling it every once in a while to see where it's at, but they're prolly not going to review it again until a major piece of content is released or CCP starts spending their advertising budget again. Also maybe if player count rose enough that would be review-worthy.
That's actually the thing i'm most afraid of right now. Development seem to be in good hands given 1.3 & 1.4 and 1.5 looks promising, but i've got this nagging sense that marketing is champing at the bit. Scary stuff. |

not really... when the game was released they did it very badly. very very badly. so much of the game was broken and glitched and rest was untested because CCP didn't test it so it was rough around the edges where it could of been good if they had gave us uprising for a month and then released it would of had much better reviews as all the bugs got worked out. its not a good idea to do wide sweeping changes, not test it, not use data from beta or player feedback from it and just wing it on a release and only pray it works and that's what they did do. |

No reviewer is going to have a comprehensive understanding of PC. There's a whole other game to be played there.
That may be a mark against reviewers, it's also a mark against Dust. There really is no place for new players in PC. Unlike how there is in Eve. |

My hope is that one of the limits to PC expansionism will be territory maintenance. Drone activity could maybe scale with area or districts held. I'd like to see the PC landowners issuing 'Drone Suppression Contracts' to smaller, younger groups of mercs.
I would really like to see the Drones issuing contracts too . |

No they won't. Besides, to actually review dust, it needs to be an ongoing review.
But I read some reviews on Dust by absolute morons who rather have a twitch arcadey FPS. |

When the core gameplay is in, and most of the rough edges are smoothed out, CCP should invite another round of reviews. If CCP was smart they would try to pair up a reviewer with a PC corp in a good match (with the corp's consent of course). Even if they suck, I think being on coms with a talented group fielding EVE-side OBs would give them a taste of how the game is played at the highest levels. I think it would give reviewers an appreciation for how tactical this game is (even in its current state). |

But I read some reviews on Dust by absolute morons who rather have a twitch arcadey FPS. There was an awful lot of basic misunderstanding by supposedly competent reviewers. I particularly like the peeps who never figured out you could change your dropsuit loadout.
Part of the job of the revised NPE and the proper NPE walkthroughs that CCP will provide us with in the future is to educate reviewers. Would prolly add 5-10% to each review. |

I wonder why? And as a lobby fps dust is garbage. MMO? Where?
You mean the grinding? The very same thing other mmo are trying to get away from?
It deserved what it got. You can close your eyes all you want during the day time and say it's night, but it's not gonna make it so.
I get it. I liked army of two devils cartel. BUT IT DID deserve every damn negative review. I said it.

If you like dust, or something about it, then who cares if everyone hates it? Well, I agree that the game deserved some of the lower reviews it received at Uprising's launch, I think when the core content is finally in-place, the game will deserve another round of reviews. Right now, when you google "DUST 514 review" the results don't really reflect the game's current state, and will be even less accurate after every point release. |

DUST will get reviews when CCP's PR Department puts in the effort for it to happen. None of this happens in a vacuum. Magazines and Blogs always need content to keep their readers happy and coming back. Any PR department worth their salt will have these writers as contacts.
Im sure that once CCP is at a place with this game that they feel they need another review to drive in new players, they will do so. |

I did just that. http://www.metacritic.com/game/playstation-3/dust-514
The current metacritic score of 59/100 is actually incredibly fair if we are being honest. The critic review breakdown is 5 positive, 23 mixed, and 3 negative. So straight up more critics loved it than hated it, and the guys in the middle have the right idea. The latest review was from July 5th and gave DUST514 70/100.
Strictly speaking, the game doesn't have any of the open world agency for it's players yet. I spend nearly half of my time "playing" completely alone inside an instanced studio apartment. And the effects of my actions are miniscule if they exist at all. Fractions of percentage points towards plex in EVE.
This game still has lots of potential, but the fundamental gameplay and cause/effect structure has been the same for over a year. The only thing different between now and July 2013 are smoother mechanics and some weapon balance. Even the new battle joining mechanic came out wonked with brand new game breaking bugs. That's not what we want reviewers to see. |

It's missing content--we all know that, but it's a fun game right now. The core mechanics are finally getting mostly ironed out; the weapons are reasonably balanced; fights are often very tactical and reward the clever player. We have to make tough choices between gank/tank/utillity in our fits; deaths cause losses and there is a serious isk/risk mechanic in play that's really unlike any other game I've ever played (with the exception of EVE), and it's totally unique in a FPS. You see people making tactical retreats much more often in this game than in any other, because players have something to loose (which makes fights much more interesting). |

Star Conflict is labeled an mmo as well has fewer players and almost the same amount of features.
Warframe is also an MMO yet the most number of other players you will ever see is 3. |

My pubstomping squads? I play solo. And please don't say I'm garbage because I did bad against a squad of 6 proto guys. Won't lie - I lost most one on ones but what's so wrong about being mediocre?
