Haven't gotten a chance to play yet but from what I'm hearing, basically the playstyle of the game changed overnight. Now this isn't a problem with me because I know how to adapt and I'll just deal with it but still it's not like they changed one gun and now the people who used it need to move on, this is an across the board change in play. From what I've been hearing, with the hardcore aim assist that has been introduced, the only way to get anything done is to run a heavily tanked out suit with a high rate of fire or marksman style weapon, with the strafing destroyed and armor super buffed it seems like speed is no longer a viable option in close combat.
What this means so far is that it seems like there's a "leveling" system now, where it doesn't matter how good you are at the game, all that matters is your defensive/offensive capabilities and how fast you can start pulling the trigger, therefore what point is there for me to run a cheap suit now? The only way I'd be able to take down one of these "high level" players with a cheap suit is by either catching them off guard or doing something like using a bomb, this could mean I'll be almost forced to run the beefiest suit possible which in my case will be a gallente logi with 5 complex plates and 3 shield extenders (surprisingly I'll probably still be able to carry equipment) and if this is the case, it leads me to the conclusion that now, in this game, money and SP wins. We'll have to see if this is the outcome that the update produces but this would be something that people can't just adapt to, this and the fact that you can't see health bars unless you're aiming at someone will be 2 things at are detrimental to the game from personal preference (because I run logistics I'm usually a combat medic, if i'm to save people I need to know who's dying)
I already have a plan for how I'll handle the new changes to features in the game, I'll live, hell if I make the right choices I may even thrive in this new environment, the possibility is absolutely open for it because my defense is as high as it can get and I think I can tell what weapons would benefit from the changes. However...just take a look around, there are players actually leaving the game, uninstalling, storming out, cutting ties, players with more time in the game than me and it doesn't seem like a rage quit, perhaps it was caused by the server issues from yesterday but still this isn't a small change that people just have to settle back into, it seems like this is changing the fundamentals of the game to the point where it's just unbearably uncomfortable for some people, for how they're used to playing. It seems like these changes are literally barring some people from being effective while others can be kings. Sure the matchmaking might keep protostomping from happening to fresh academy grads but once you move up to the big leagues it seems like only 1 style of gameplay will be supported and this is a mistake. From my point of view, from seeing videos, forums discussions, friend giving me a news feed, without playing a single game, there is just too much changing all at once, and it really makes me question how much planning is actually going into the game's development. Time will tell what the outcome will be once the dust settles (lol) but I'm predicting alot of unhappy players. |

Thanks for sharing your thoughts. I would give them a great deal more weight if you actually had played the new patch.
By and in large, I think you will find the community here is overreacting, and in the instances they are right, CCP has shown they will address the issue.

I plan to, but I might have to do it on my own because alot of the news doesn't sound good for some people that I play with. Honestly wouldn't be surprised if they quit too. |

What I am trying to tell you: Is it is not that bad --once you play I suspect you will arrive at the same conclusion -- and what is bad will get fixed. Give it some time brother, and recommend your friends do the same. If there is one thing I have learned on these forums is they tend to overreact and focus on the negative, and this time is no different....Lead |

You're going to see matches with a lot more variety of weapons being used in different situations. People using cover, teamwork and tactics instead of dancing around to to beat hit detection. You're going to have some pretty awesome new maps to play on. |

Seeing some interesting developments to far, I definitely haven't see anyone running speedy close quarters suits. Seeing alot of beefy slow suits, mainly assault rifles, scramblers, haven't seen a single shotgun, couple mass drivers, lot of forge guns.
The most interesting thing I'm seeing is that there's alot more people running together instead of lone wolfing which is great, its definitely harder to make a push on places especially if there's a big open area between them, it seems like the game is just less hectic overall, and I was playing ambush. I did see a bigger difference between people running cheap suits and expensive ones, obviously cheaper ones died much more quickly whereas protos could stay out in the field for a while before they felt the urge to go back into cover, first time I used a really tanked out logi suit and I didn't die once, used a cheap heavy after that with basically the same if not worse stats as far as health and speed goes and started getting gunned down alot.
And as predicted I HATE the fact that you can't tell what squad mate you're aiming at if they're behind walls and that you can't see their health unless you're staring at them in the open, running a medic suit is going to be alot more difficult. Did like that using the life stick is more fluid now though.
I don't know why everyone was up in arms about how everything I said was invalid because I didn't play yet, I'm not saying the game is broken, it's not, but there is a very different feel to it and alot of the ideas I've had about it, while maybe not communicated properly, are being supported by the game, why? Because I got my info from people who have played the game and aren't just whining about it lol. Doesn't matter what any of us say right off the bat it's gonna take time to settle and see what happens but I was bothered by the fact that it made SUCH a bad first impression that alot of people were actually leaving, that doesn't mean there's a small hiccup with the game this is big, and no matter what happens with the game that alone is a problem. |

This - please play the game first. The aim assist isn't nearly as dramatic as the people on the forums make it out to be, for example. I run scout often, and have not had any issues in terms of suvivability when I do, for example. |

There's an understatement.

Lol that's true and to be expected, but I'm not paying attention to the overreacting so much as the information, trying to stay objective with this and just make predictions based on straight facts, picked up some stuff from the games I just played and it's definitely having an interesting effect, it's not frustrating for me just different. However I still see it as a big problem that they're changing so much about the game that they're losing players who can't adapt as quickly. Whether or not these players should be a part of the game is debatable. |
